The Jenny Craig diet was the brainchild of a woman named Genevieve Guidroz, already a weight loss guru when she came up with the diet.  The Jenny Craig company began in Australia, began offering its diet program in America in 1985, and was purchased by Nestlé in 2006.  The company currently boasts 550 weight loss centers in the United States. Read on for more information.

Jenny Craig calls itself one of the largest weight management companies in the entire world. The plan is pretty simple – increase activities while eating less.  It’s a well known plan throughout the fitness world.  The Jenny Craig diet doesn’t only seek to help people lose weight, it seeks to establish a long term lifestyle for healthy living. In this sense it’s much more than a fad diet.

The Jenny Craig diet has always boasted at least one celebrity spokesperson. One of these was a famous actress who had appeared in Cheers and various Star Trek movies – Kristie Alley. A pretty heavy Kristie first became the spokesperson in 2005.  Her work for Jenny Craig came after she had ballooned to over 200 pounds, and appeared in a comedy documentary called Fat Actress. In November of 2006 Kristie claimed the Jenny Craig diet had helped her lose 75 pounds, but she didn’t appear any slimmer.

The company also offers one on one counseling as part of the Jenny Craig diet. These are not certified professional nutritionists nor are they health professionals.  Jenny Craig trains them in turn only for the position. Here’s how the Jenny Craig diet works. Members join, then select from a number of different plans each of which comes with a set of prepackaged food. The foods selected from 75 Jenny Craig frozen and dried entrees are completed with store bought items such as vegetables and dairy products. Later in the diet, clients can create their own menus selected from a set of Jenny Craig foods. Eventually the Jenny Craig foods are cut back to less than half the meals.

The Jenny Craig diet was tested by the medical site WebMD.  They concluded that the diet works – the food is tasty and people can lose weight in a short period of time.  So give the Jenny Craig diet a try.
